EARLY OUTBURST PUSHES CRUSHERS TO SERIES VICTORY
AVON, Ohio - The Lake Erie Crushers scored in each of the first three innings to power their way to a 5-1 victory over the Gateway Grizzlies Sunday evening at All Pro Freight Stadium.
The Crushers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Jodam Rivera doubled to begin the frame and an RBI-single by Andrew Davis put the Crushers on the board. Travis Vetters added an RBI double moments later. Dom Duggan singled home Arden McWilliams with an unearned run to push the lead to 3-0 in the second.
In the third, Drew Saylor led off with a double and Eddie Tisdale ripped an RBI-double to right with one out. Lee Huggins followed by adding an RBI-knock to give Lake Erie a 5-0 lead.
Travis Risser pitched 7.2 innings, allowing just a single run on a Brandon Peters solo home run. Risser struck out three and walked just one to even his mark at 2-2. Peters' homer, his third of the season, came in the seventh. It was the 947th homer in Gateway history, passing Chillicothe for the most homers by a Frontier League franchise. Jodam Rivera posted two hits in the game. J.J. Pacella pitched the final inning and two-thirds for Lake Erie, striking out three Grizzlies.
The Washington Wild Things visit All Pro Freight Stadium tomorrow for a 7:05 p.m. contest. RHP Josh Roberts (1-0, 2.62) takes the hill for the Crushers with RHP Zach Groh (1-2, 5.12) countering for Washington.
